Abstract: This course focuses on strategies caregivers can use to prevent escalation of responsive behaviours of older adults with dementia safely and appropriately. Students will learn to differentiate between environmental, programming-based and caregiving interventions. The course will include a variety of interactive application activities. Students will practice selecting the interventions to apply in high vs low risk situations, in residential and in community-care settings. The impact of building and sustaining relationships with the entire care team on intervention strategies will be emphasized. Finally, students will learn why and how to document incidences of responsive behaviour.
